Austin Peay (3-11, 0-1 OVC) shot 50 percent (15-of-30) from the floor in the first half and trailed by one-point, 36-35, at the break.

The Lady Govs would briefly take the lead in the second half on its second shot of the frame, but then went 9-of-36 (25 percent) the rest of the way.

Southeast Missouri (5-10, 1-1 OVC) enjoyed a quick start to the game, making seven of its first 13 shots, including four three pointers to build a 12-point, 18-6, lead less than seven minutes into the contest.

The Redhawks would maintain that lead for the next 10 minutes as it continued to shoot the ball well and finished the half shooting 40 percent from the floor overall (14-of-35) and from three-point range (6-of-15).

Tiasha GrayThe Lady Govs chipped into that lead over the half’s final four minutes thanks to a combination of good shot selection and a Redhawks shooting slump. Austin Peay made five of its final eight shots in the frame while Southeast Missouri made just one of its final eight down the stretch. Sophomore Tiasha Gray had a pair of field goals, including a jumper just before the horn, as APSU’s ended the half with a 10-2 run and trailed by one point, 36-35, at the break.

Austin Peay opened the second half with a layup by freshman Tearra Banks to take its only lead of the contest, 37-36, at the 18:55 mark. However, APSU’s lead lasted just eight seconds as Jordan Hunter hit a layup to give Southeast Missouri the lead again.

Beth RatesSoutheast Missouri pushed the lead to nine points, 52-43, with a 6-0 run that included four points by Brianna Mitchell. A 7-0 run later in the half extended the Redhawks lead to 10 points, 62-52, at the 6:23 mark as Allyson Bradshaw had five points during the burst.

The Redhawks would make just one field goal in the final 6:23 but converted on 11 of 16 from the free-throw line to hold the Lady Govs at bay. Austin Peay could not chip away at the deficit, making only 3 of its final 12 shot attempts.

Gray led Austin Peay with a 16-point, seven-rebound, six-assist performance. Freshman Beth Rates added a 14-point, seven-rebound performance. Sophomore Jennifer Nwokocha chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
