Austin Peay State University’s Chris Horton picks up pair of honors

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University sophomore center Chris Horton has received a pair of honors from online basketball services.

Horton was named OVC Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.com after averaging 14.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game during the week, the second time the site has recognized Horton this season.

In particular, Horton proved extremely effective during the Governors’ Ohio Valley Conference weekend sweep of UT Martin and Southeast Missouri.

He recorded his season’s seventh (16 points, 12 rebounds vs. UT Martin) and eighth (21 points, 12 rebounds vs. SEMO) double-doubles. Horton also blocked a school-record eight shots against the Skyhawks, Thursday.

Late last weekend Horton also was named to the CollegeHoopsDaily.com  All-OVC team for non-league play. The selection by College Hoops Daily writer Jon Teitel, is based on fantasy/statistical value. Players are listed in a standard five-position lineup (G-G-F-F-C) when possible, with exceptions.

Joining Horton on that team were Southeast Missouri forwards Jarekious Bradley and Tyler Stone, Eastern Kentucky guard Glenn Cosey and Tennessee State guard Patrick Miller.

During non-league play, Horton averaged 13.7 points, shooting 62 percent from the floor, and 9.9 rebounds per game, including six double-doubles and eight double-digit rebound games. He also had 40 blocks in the Govs’ 14 non-league contests.
