Nashville, TN – Austin Peay State University sophomore center Chris Horton has been named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association after registering a pair of double-doubles in Ohio Valley Conference-opening weekend action.
On Monday, Horton was named College Sports Madness OVC Player of the Week. It also is the second time this season Horton has earned the TSWA award.The 6-foot-8 center posted 16 points with 12 rebounds and a school-record eight blocked shots in an 81-68 victory against UT Martin, Thursday.
The Decatur, GA, native added 21 points, 12 boards and three more blocks Saturday in an 80-74 win versus Southeast Missouri. It was his season’s eighth double-double.
Horton connected on 14-of-25 shots in the two outings and made 7-of-8 free throws against SEMO. He is averaging 14.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game this season. The Govs travel to rival Murray State, 7:30pm, Saturday, in their only contest this week.
