Austin Peay State University Governors and Murray State Racers collide in OVC Basketball Action Saturday

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University basketball team visits Murray State on Saturday in the 118th meeting of the two longtime Ohio Valley Conference rivals.

The two teams represent the most intense rivalry in the OVC, and the fans that support them mark this game on their calendar each year.

Austin Peay has lost the last five meetings between the two, including last season’s 75-68 overtime decision in Murray.

A victory would mean the Govs would start the conference schedule 3-0 and climb over the .500 mark overall at 9-8. It also would be the Governors fourth straight win.

After being ranked 343 out of 345 in Division I for turnovers (17.3 tpg) entering the weekend, the Govs made it back-to-back games with nine turnovers when they committed that number against Southeast Missouri.

Austin Peay sophomore center Chris Horton was named College Sports Madness.com OVC Player of the Week and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week after recording a pair of double-doubles in APSU’s weekend sweep of UT Martin and Southeast Missouri.

In the UT Martin victory, Horton also blocked a school-record eight shots.

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsThe Govs shot better than 50 percent from the field in both league victories last weekend–the eighth and ninth times they have made at least half of their shot attempts in games this season.

The Govs combined to shoot 41 percent from three-point range against UT Martin and SEMO while holding the opposition to 30 percent.

Murray State Racers

Murray State RacersMurray State comes in 8-7 and 3-0 in the OVC after winning 77-64 at Eastern Kentucky, Wednesday night.

Forward Jarvis Williams was named OVC Newcomer of the Week after averaging 18 ppg and 16.5 rpg last week while guard Cameron Payne was selected OVC Freshman of the Week after averaging 25 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 5.9 apg.
