Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s basketball team (3-13, 0-3 OVC) concludes the Kentucky portion of its schedule when it meets Morehead State (8-8, 2-1 OVC) in a 5:00pm (CT), Monday contest at Johnson Arena.

The Lady Govs enter Monday’s affair seeking their first OVC win after dropping a 76-68 decision at Murray State, Saturday. Austin Peay recovered from a 14-point first-half deficit to close within four points in the second half. However, an ill-timed five-minute scoring drought doomed APSU.

Freshman Tearra Banks had a huge hand in the 14-5 second half run, scoring seven consecutive points. She finished with a team-best 17 points off the bench. Senior Nicole Olszewski added 13 points and five assists in her first start since December 14th.

Morehead State returns to action after suffering its first OVC loss in a 79-58 home defeat, Saturday, to now East Division leader Eastern Kentucky. Terrice Robinson led the Eagles with 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including a 8-of-11 effort from the free throw line.

Austin Peay Lady Govs

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsMonday’s contest will be the fourth, and final, contest the Lady Govs will play in Kentucky – they have faced Western Kentucky, Louisville and Murray State previously. Austin Peay carries an 10-game losing streak into Monday’s contest, its longest losing streak since the 1990-91 campaign.

Sophomore guard Tiasha Gray leads the Lady Govs in scoring (13.3 ppg) and assists (4.9 apg). Five APSU players have recorded a double-double this season.

Austin Peay’s non-conference opponents have combined for a .551 win percentage this season and APSU’s non-conference strength of schedule ranks 58th according to WBBState.com.

Morehead State Eagles

Morehead State EaglesMorehead State’s loss to Eastern Kentucky, Saturday, ended a four-game winning streak. The Eagles opened conference play with wins at Eastern Illinois (75-64) and SIU Edwardsville (57-53). Morehead State has a 2-1 mark in OVC play, despite a minus-50 (minus-16.7 per game) rebounding margin in those contests.

Senior guard Terrice Robinson has averaged 21.3 points per game in league action, 23 of her 64 points in league play coming at the free throw line.

An Austin Peay Win Would

End its 10-game losing streak and be its first win since November 30th… End its seven-game OVC losing streak… Snap its six-game losing streak away from the Dunn Center and make it 2-7 on the road… Improve Daniels’ record to 83-151 overall and 53-77 in OVC action… Make the Lady Govs 436-623 overall since 1976-77.

An Austin Peay Loss Would

Be its 11th-straight loss and longest losing streak since a 13-game slide in 1989-90…Extend its losing streak to seven games away from the Dunn Center and make it 1-8 on the road… Be APSU’s eighth consecutive OVC loss… Drop Daniels’ record to 82-152 overall and 52-78 in league play… Make the Lady Govs 435-624 overall since 1976-77.

Banks Big At Murray

Tearra BanksAfter scoring 10 points in her first two OVC outings, freshman Tearra Banks finally broke through in conference play, scoring 17 points at Murray State, January 11th.

She had seven consecutive points as part of a 14-5 run that slashed the Racers lead to four points in the second half.

Olszewski Shines In Return

Nicole OlszewskiSenior Nicole Olszewski returned to the starting lineup at Murray State, January 11th.

It was her first start since December 14th at Louisville and she responded with an impressive 13-point, five-assist outing.

It was Olszewski’s second double-digit scoring outing this season.

Stainback Falters, Recovers

Kristen StainbackAfter her 34-point outing against UT Martin, junior Kristen Stainback faltered out of the game at Murray State, Monday.

She did not record her first points until the 16:07 mark of the second half, but went on to finish with 10 points while grabbing a career high nine rebounds.

Lady Govs Limit Racers

Austin Peay’s defense limited Murray State to a 31.3 percent shooting performance, January 11th.

It was the lowest shooting percent age by a Lady Govs opponent this season, surpassing the 34.2 percent outing by Western Kentucky in the season opener.
