Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – With its first two-game win streak in hand, Austin Peay women’s basketball team (5-13, 2-3 OVC) ends its longest road trip this season when it meets SIU Edwardsville (5-13, 2-4 OVC) in a 7:00pm, Monday contest at the Vadalabene Center.

Austin Peay notched its second straight win with a 64-56 victory at Eastern Illinois, Monday. It was the Lady Govs first win in Charleston since 2007 and gave them their first back-to-back wins in the last 33 games played.

Four Lady Govs players scored more than 10 points as Austin Peay shot better than 45 percent (45.6 at Charleston) from the floor for a second straight game.

For the second straight game, sophomore Tiasha Gray did not start the a contest but again led the Lady Govs scoring effort with a 15-point outing. Junior Kristen Stainback and freshman Beth Rates each chipped in 12 points in the win.

SIUE enters Monday’s contest after a victory, posting a 71-67 win against Murray State, Saturday. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Cougars. Junior guard Tierny Austin led SIUE with 17 points while freshman forward Micah Jones added a 14-point, nine-rebound effort.

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsMonday’s affair is the last of three contests APSU will play in Illinois this season, it is 2-0 to date with wins against Southern Illinois (71-69, November 12th) and Eastern Illinois (64-56, January 18th).

Austin Peay has back-to-back road wins for the first time since February 19th, 2011, ending a stretch of 37 true road games without consecutive wins. Austin Peay’s defense has held its last three opponents below 40 percent shooting, those teams combining to shoot 35.2 percent (69-of-196).

Sophomore guard Tiasha Gray leads the Lady Govs in scoring (13.3 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg), she ranks among the OVC top five in both categories. Five APSU players have recorded a double-double this season, sophomore Jennifer Nwokocha leading the team with three (all in the last six games).

With last Monday’s win at Morehead State, Austin Peay snapped a 10-game slide, its longest losing streak since the 1990-91 campaign. Austin Peay’s non-conference opponents have combined for a .554 win percentage this season and APSU’s non-conference strength of schedule ranks 51st according to WBBState.com.

SIU Edwardsville Cougars

SIU Edwardsville CougarsSIUE is 3-4 at the Vadalabene Center this season, including a 2-2 OVC mark at home. The Cougars defense is ranked first in field-goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to 36.3 percent shooting.

SIUE’s defense also is ranked second in scoring defense, limiting league teams to 63.7 points per game.

Junior guard Tierny Austin leads SIUE in both scoring (12.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg). Sophomore guard CoCo Moore is second on the team in scoring (11.9 ppg).

An Austin Peay Win Would

Give it three consecutive wins for the first time since March 2nd, 2011 (78 games). Be its first 3-game OVC win streak since February 19th, 2011 (39 OVC games). Give it three straight road wins for the first time since February 26th, 2006 (86 true road games). Be its third OVC win this season, topping last season’s OVC win total.

Give it a 3-1 record during the four-game road trip. Be its second-straight win against SIUE. Be its second-straight win at the Vadalabene Center. Make it 3-0 in the State of Illinois this season. Improve Daniels’ record to 85-151 overall and 55-77 in OVC action. Make the Lady Govs 438-623 overall since 1976-77.

An Austin Peay Loss Would

End its two-game win streak. Level its record at 2-2 during the four-game road trip. Make it 1-3 at the Vadalabene Center all-time. Be its four loss in the last five meetings with SIUE. Make it 2-1 in the State of Illinois this season. Drop Daniels’ record to 84-152 overall and 54-78 in league play. Make the Lady Govs 437-624 overall since 1976-77.

Win At EIU First Since 2007

Austin Peay’s win at Eastern Illinois was its first since 2007, snapping a six-game losing streak at Lantz Arena. APSU’s six-game losing streak in Charleston was its longest active losing streak on an OVC opponent’s home court. That honor now passes to UT Martin’s Skyhawk Arena, where APSU has lost three straight games.

Long Time Since Consecutive Wins

Austin Peay’s consecutive wins at Morehead State and Eastern Illinois were its first back-to-back wins in 33 games, dating back to December 29th, 2012.

It also was APSU’s first back-to-back road wins since February 19th, 2011 – a stretch of 37 straight true road games without consecutive wins.

Gray Exploding Off Bench

Tiasha GraySophomore Tiasha Gray has come off the Lady Govs bench in each of the last two games and the change has done her good.

She has led APSU in scoring in each game, and is averaging 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game off the bench.

Forwards Cause Damage At EIU

Jennifer NwokochaAustin Peay’s forward trio of sophomore Jennifer Nwokocha and freshmen Beth Rates and Tearra Banks combined for 50 percent of APSU’s offense (32 of 64 pts) in the win at EIU.

They combined to shoot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the floor.
