Springfield Yellow Jackets Steal District 10-AAA From Kenwood Knights, 52-50

Kenwood High SchoolClarksville, TN – Free throws in the last minute of the game gave the Springfield Yellow Jackets the 52-50 win over the Kenwood Knights Monday, January 27th at Kenwood High School.

With 14 seconds remaining, Brelain Cantrell made two free throws to give his Yellow Jackets the 50-46 lead. They were the only two points he scored in the game.

The Knights immediately responded with a well executed full court play that ended with Treshawn Foster making a layup to bring the Knights back within two, 50-48, burning the clock down to the 6 second mark.

On the ensuing inbounds play, Daniel Norl was tagged with a foul that put Jaylyn Hudson on the free throw line.

Hudson made both free throws and extended the lead back to four. The Knights were only able to score two more points before time ran out.

It was a dramatic end to a fast-paced, physical game.

Kenwood’s Jimarrio Rivers led all scorers with 17 points. He was one of seven different Knights to score. Daniel Norl was held to just 7 points. Legree Hairston and Matthew Norl both scored 9.

Tim Barber led the Yellow Jackets with 11 points. Barber was one of eight different Yellow Jacket scorers. Hudson scored 8. Four Yellow Jackets scored six points.

The two teams battled back and forth, neither gaining a clear advantage, throughout the game. After three periods the two teams were separated by only 3 points, 40-37.

The Knights maintained a tight lead until Barber made back-to-back baskets to give the Yellow Jackets a one-point lead, 47-46, with 2:05 remaining. From there, the Yellow Jackets made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch.

The Yellow Jackets made 76 percent of their free throws in the game (13 of 17). The Knights converted only 57 percent (4 of 7).

The win improves the Yellow Jackets District 10-AAA conference record to 4-5. The Knights fall to 8-2, only one game ahead of Henry County and two games ahead of Rossview.
