APSU’s Amia Butler named OVC co-Field Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUBrentwood, TN – Freshman Amia Butler, who last weekend became the first Austin Peay State University track and field athlete in head coach Doug Molnar’s tenure to compete in the indoor pentathlon, has been named this week’s Ohio Valley Conference co-Female Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Butler placed sixth in the pentathlon at the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana with a 3,215 point score that leads the OVC entering the weekend.

Among her highlights in the five-discipline event were a first-place finish in the pentathlon long jump (5.75m) and a runner-up 60m hurdles finish (8.95) that would have just missed a qualifying mark in the 60m hurdles open event.

The Nashville Tennessee native is the second Lady Gov in as many weeks to receive an indoor honor from the OVC, joining Maikea Davis’ honor from the week of January 22nd. She’s the first Lady Gov to take an indoor field honor from the conference since Cenitra Hudson won for the week of January 11th, 2011.

The Lady Govs continue their march to the OVC Indoor Championships at this weekend’s TSU Invitational. The one-day event takes place Saturday at the Gentry Center in Nashville, TN.
