Austin Peay State University offering Allied Healthcare training courses

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Center for Extended and Distance Education, in partnership with ProTrain, is now offering allied healthcare training programs that will prepare students to enter the healthcare industry – the largest employment sector in the country today.

The courses, which are conveniently offered with schedules planned for busy adults, are listed below.

Pharmacy Technician Training

Pharmacy Technician Training is an 11-week program of online instruction and classroom practice that prepares students to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. This online class includes weekly classroom meetings to reinforce and practice new skills.

To introduce students to this program, a free one-hour information session will be held at 6:00pm on Monday, February 17th, in the APSU McReynolds Building, room 219. The class will begin on March 1st, meeting from 8:30am to 4:30pm on Saturdays.

Phlebotomy Technician Training

Phlebotomy Technician Training is a 10-week course that provides fast-paced training designed to prepare students for a career as a phlebotomist in the growing healthcare workforce. Following 64 hours of classroom instruction, students will experience a 40-hour, hands-on externship with a local healthcare facility as part of their training. Textbooks, classroom materials and externship placement are all included in the course fee.

To introduce students to the program, a free one-hour information session will be held at 6:00pm on Monday, February 17th, in the APSU McReynolds Building, room 219.

The class will begin on March 3rd, meeting from 6:00pm-9:30pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Clinical Medical Assistant Training

Clinical Medical Assistant Training is a 14-week program that combines 98 hours of classroom instruction and 36 hours of online instruction, with a 160-hour externship, to prepare students to work in a physician’s office or clinic setting. The training also prepares students to sit for the national certification offered through the National Health Career Association.

To introduce students to this program, a free one-hour information session will be held at 6:00pm on Monday, February 17th, in the McReynolds Building, room 219. The course will begin on March 8th, meeting from 9:00am to 4:30pm on Saturdays.
