Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University held its basketball reunion, Saturday, recognizing former players for both the Governors and Lady Govs programs.

In fact, former basketball Govs dated back from the 1950s (Chet Garrett, 1956-58) to the present day Governors at the morning brunch as both the current Lady Govs and Governors got to meet players who were responsible for the respective program’s rich tradition, including members from the first Ohio Valley Conference team (1963-64).

All former Governors and Lady Govs were introduced prior to the men’s game Saturday night with SIU Edwardsville while the 2003-04 Governors basketball team, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its unprecedented 16-0 Ohio Valley Conference mark, was honored at halftime for its crowning achievement.

That team held the opposition during OVC play to fewer than 60 points per game, including nine straight games of limiting league opponents to 60 points or less.

Joining President Tim Hall and Athletics Director Derek van der Merwe on the floor were: players Corey Gipson, Maurice “Squeaky” Hampton, Fernandez Lockett, Michael Dudas, Anthony Davis, Zac Schlader, Levi Carmichael and team manager Justin Wamble.

Earlier in the day former players were invited to attend both the Lady Govs and Governors shoot-arounds. In addition, many of the former players, taking advantage of being back on campus for the first time in years, walked and drove around campus, noticing the many changes, including the disappearance of dormitories—replaced by Governors Terrace, for one—many lived during their times at APSU.

After the Governors basketball, a reception was held for the former Govs and Lady Govs at The Gilroy on University.
