Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN For the second straight game, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team saw its shooting cool in the second half. The Lady Govs fell to Eastern Illinois in a tightly-contested 65-63 contest that dealt a blow to Austin Peay’s Ohio Valley Conference Tournament aspirations.

Shots Fired reported on the campus of Austin Peay State University

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On February 17th, 2014 at approximately 9:30pm, the Austin Peay State University Police Department received a report of gun shots on Drane Street between Governor’s Terrace South and the McReynolds Building.

Witnesses stated that a dark colored Nissan Altima and white Chevrolet Malibu were sitting occupied in the area. An individual in the Altima fired two shots into the air and fled down Drane Street and made a right onto College Street. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay State University Baseball head coach Gary McClure gets 4-year contract extension

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – A day after Gary McClure became the first Ohio Valley Conference baseball coach in history to record 800 career victories, Austin Peay State University has announced it has signed its longtime coach to a four-year extension through the 2017-18 season.

McClure, who has led Austin Peay baseball to three straight NCAA tournaments and six overall, became only the 28th active coach with 800 career victories, Sunday, when the Governors defeated Iowa, 7-4.

14th Annual Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Show coming September 26th-27th, 2014

 

Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine ClubClarksville, TN – On September 26th-27th, 2014, the Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Club will hold the 14th Annual Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Show at the 4-H Club Grounds. Admission to the event is free.

Although open to the general public, Friday, September 26th, is designated as “Kid’s Day.” Teachers (and parents) bring children from local and surrounding county and private schools to learn about life on the farm as it was many years ago.

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts Annual Ovation Awards Ceremony set for March 2nd

 

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative ArtsClarksville, TN – In 2010, Dr. Joseph B. Trahern Jr. donated a couple of crude, limestone statues to Austin Peay State University.

The pieces, which had belonged to his late mother, were sculpted by the prominent folk artist William Edmondson, the first African-American artist to have a solo show of his work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Those donated works, worth tens of thousands of dollars, helped jump-start the University’s burgeoning folk art collection, and they have made the entire community a destination for art enthusiasts.
