Clarksville Montgomery County under Tornado Watch and Wind Advisory Friday, February 20th


National Weather ServiceMontgomery County, TN – The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the Clarksville Montgomery County Area. A Tornado watch 11 is in effect until 9:00pm CT.

The Tornado Watch is in effect for the following Tennessee counties: Benton County, Carroll County, Chester County, Crockett County, Decatur County, Dickson County, Dyer County, Fayette County, Gibson County, Hardeman County, Hardin County, Haywood County, Henderson County, Henry County, Hickman County, Houston County, Humphreys County, Lake County, Lauderdale County, Lewis County, Madison County, McNairy County, Montgomery County, Obion County, Perry County, Shelby County, Stewart County, Tipton County, Wayne County, and Weakley County.

Clarksville Montgomery County is also under a Wind Advisory until 9:00pm CT.

A wind advisory means that winds of 25 to 39 mph and/or gusts of 35 to 57 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

This Wind advisory is in effect for all of Middle Tennessee through this evening. A strong surface low pressure center is presently across southeast Iowa with a trailing cold front into eastern Texas.

This strong surface low pressure center will continue moving northeastward into north central Wisconsin by later this evening. This will drag a trailing cold front across Middle Tennessee this evening also. Along and ahead of this frontal passage. Sustained wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 to 45 mph will be possible through the evening hours.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Loose outdoor items will be vulnerable to the wind and should be secured properly. Some tree limbs could also be snapped.

In addition, caution should be used when working on elevated surfaces exposed to the wind. Travel on east to west highways may be hazardous because of crosswinds.

Counties affected: Bedford County, Cheatham County, Davidson County, Dickson County, Giles County, Hickman County, Houston County, Humphreys County, Lawrence County, Lewis County, Marshall County, Maury County, Montgomery County, Perry County, Robertson County, Rutherford County, Stewart County, Sumner County, Wayne County, Williamson County, and Wilson County.
