Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – After bouncing back from its season’s first loss with a win last Saturday, Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team looks to embark on another winning streak when the Govs host Western Kentucky (4:30pm, Friday) and travel to Southern Indiana (6:00pm, Saturday) for a pair of matches.

The Govs enter their final two February matches with a 3-1 mark, tops in the Ohio Valley Conference ahead of Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.

After suffering their season’s first loss last weekend – and losing the doubles point in back-to-back matches for the first time in head coach Ross Brown’s tenure – against Southern Illinois, the Govs rallied back with a 6-1 demolition of Lipscomb, Saturday.

Junior Aleksas Tverijonas has opened the season with a 4-0 mark, and is no stranger to running off long winning streaks; the Lithuanian won 15 in a row to start the 2013 campaign, a school record until classmate Dimitar Ristovski passed him later in the season.

In last season’s match against Southern Indiana, the Govs squeaked out a hard-fought 4-3 contest. Missing then-No. 1 Sean Bailey, the Govs relied on this year’s core of Ristovski, Tverijonas and senior Jasmin Ademovic, who secured all three Govs’ singles victories against the Screaming Eagles.

The Govs did not face Western Kentucky last season, but handed the Hilltoppers a 7-0 defeat in their February 10th, 2012 matchup. Ademovic, Ristovski, Tverijonas and junior Iago Seffrin came away from that contest with singles wins.

Looking ahead, Austin Peay begins March with a trip to Columbia, KY, to face Lindsey Wilson College in noon battle.
