Kenwood Knights Defeat Gallatin Green Wave 79-55, Advances to Region 5-AAA Semifinals

Kenwood High SchoolClarksville, TN – The Kenwood Knight’s crusade to a state title continued Saturday night at Kenwood High School. The Knights offense submerged the Gallatin Green Wave, 79-55, to advance to the Region 5-AAA Tournament Semifinals.

The normally strong Green Wave defense was put on their heels from the opening tip off. The Knights offense started hot and continued to heat up throughout the game.

“I thought offensively, it was one of the best games that we have played,” Knight’s head coach John Stigall said. “We got a lot of shots at the rim, a lot of open threes.”

Six different Knights scored in the game. Four of them scored double-digit points.

“Offensively, we were very sharp. We got what we wanted a lot of times tonight. We made shots,“ Stigall said.

Daniel Norl led all scorers with 26 points. Jimario Rivers scored 18, Kenya Mosley scored 15 and Lagree Hairston added 11.

Rivers had 6 rebounds and a block to go with his 18 points. He set the tone at the beginning of the game, scoring the Knights first eight points on an 8-2 run. Rivers scored 10 of his 18 in the first half of the game.

“Jimario was really active tonight,“ Stigall said. “When he is that active on offense and defense, we can be pretty good.”

Norl’s first shot of the game was the second of back-to-back threes by the Knights which put them in control of the game 14-4 with 3:33 remaining in the first period.

The Knights made 10, 3-pointers in the game. The Green wave made nine from downtown.

The Knights led by at least 10 points until 2:42 left in the second period when Gallatin’s Devonte Williams made his second 3-pointer of the game. The shot closed the gap to seven points, 28-21.

Williams made three of his total five, 3-pointers in the second period. Both he and Robert Clayton led the Green Wave with 19 points.

After Williams shot at 2:42 until halftime the Knights closed the half on a 7-3 run that put them back to a double-digit lead at halftime 35-24.

Norl and Rivers scored all the points in a Knight’s 16-0 run in the third period that put them ahead 51-29 with just over 3 minutes left in the period.

Norl scored 21 of his 26 points in the second half of the game. He scored 10 in the last period. The Knights shot 9-of-12 from the field in the final period.

“Daniel was great again,“ Stigall said. “You don’t want to take it for granted, but it is kind of something we are getting accustomed to. He is playing at a very high level right now.”

Turnovers led to easy transition baskets for the Knights in the fourth period. With six minutes left in the game they led by 15 points, 61-46, and continued charging forward, never relinquishing the lead.

Next, the Knights will play Mt. Juliet in the Regional 5-AAA Tournament Semifinals Tuesday, February 25th.
