Even though the doubles matches counted as individual points today in lieu of the ‘best two-of-three takes one point’ standard format, Austin Peay would have come out on top regardless.
Juniors Dimitar Ristovski and Iago Seffrin defeated Joe Bray and Josh Walden, 8-5, at No. 1, while an all-freshman duo of James Mitchell and Manuel Montenegro knocked off Joel Stern and Dmitri Stocker, 8-3.
Ristovski was one of two Govs to win in straight sets during singles action, knocking off Bray 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Evan Borowski bookended Ristovski’s win, defeating Kyle Landrum 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
Mitchell defeated Stern 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 4, while Montenegro polished off Walden in a 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 battle at No. 5; both freshmen went undefeated on the weekend.
Junior Aleksas Tverijonas continued his unbeaten play, defeating Jack Joyce 6-7, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 to run his spring record to 6-0.
The Govs travel to Lindsey Wilson College next Saturday for a 12 noon match against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.
