Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s baseball team hosts Bradley, Dayton and Xavier in the round-robin Riverview Inn Classic, Friday-Sunday, at Raymond C. Hand Park.
The Govs will face each team in a 3:30pm contest with the other two teams playing in an 11:00am contest each day.

Austin Peay will open the tournament with Dayton, Friday, followed by Bradley and then Xavier.
The Govs return to action after splitting a Tuesday doubleheader against Eastern Michigan to open its current 13-game homestand.

Despite scoring 8 runs in each game, Austin Peay split a doubleheader against Eastern Michigan, 8-3 and 9-8, Tuesday. First baseman Matt Wollenzin brings a four-game hit streak (4-13, .307) into the weekend. Utility man Ridge Smith had 4 hits (.444) and 4 RBI in the Eastern Michigan doubleheader and now has a team-best 11 RBI.
Left fielder Tommy Hager has reached base safely in all four games he has had a plate appearance (2-13, 4 BB). Right fielder Rolando Gautier had 3 hits and 3 RBI against Eastern Michigan, he entered Tuesday with 5 hits and 2 RBI. 3rd baseman Alex Robles was held to 1-of-5 at the plate vs. Eastern Michigan, but had a walk, 2 sacrifice bunts and a sacrifice fly.
Center fielder Chase Hamilton had 1 hit but walked 4 times (had 2 BB entering day). 10 Govs recorded a hit in the doubleheader and 7 batters recorded a walk. Austin Peay recorded 6 stolen bases in Tuesday’s twinbill and they enter the weekend with 9 steals.
Austin Peay has started six freshmen in each game this season. Eight freshmen have taken an at-bat this year and they have combined to hit .199 (34-for-171), with Robles (10 H, .385) and Smith (10 H, .313) leading the team in batting average.
The Govs weekend pitching rotation will change in Week 3 as lefty Zach Hall will get the week off after taking the hill as the Game 1 starter in the season’s 1st two weeks. Right-hander Ryan Quick will climb the hill to start the Riverview Inn Classic, he has allowed 2 earned runs in each of his 1st 2 starts.
Righty Alex Robles will get the nod in Game 2 for the 3rd consecutive week; he is the 1st known Govs player to start a game as both the pitcher and designated hitter when he did so at Baylor, February 22nd.
Right-hander Caleb Powell will make his season’s 1st start, Sunday, returning to action after serving a four-game suspension following his ejection from the February 22nd game at Baylor.
The Govs defense has gotten off to a rough start with 29 errors in the season’s 1st 9 games (.918 fielding percentage).
Head coach Gary McClure is one of 28 active Division I coaches with 800 wins he is APSU and the OVC’s all-time wins leader.
This season, Austin Peay was picked to finish 2nd in the OVC’s preseason poll behind Tennessee Tech. The Govs did not have a player selected to the preseason All-OVC squad; only senior catcher P.J. Torres returns after receiving All-OVC honors (2nd team) last season.
