The defending Ohio Valley Conference tourney champs, the Governors finished tied for fifth at the Ninth Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at Hilton Head.

APSU was able to extend its Top 5-finish streak to 19 in-season tournaments, despite just four weather-hindered outdoor practices. They have doubled their outdoor practice time since returning from Hilton Head.

“I am really looking forward to this golf tournament,” APSU golf coach Kirk Kayden said. “The guys have practice and played more in the last two weeks than we have the whole spring semester. Our preparation has been good and it looks to me we have guys going this week that are hitting the ball really well.”

In addition to former Ohio Valley Conference member Samford, the Governors will see league rivals Jacksonville State, Belmont and Eastern Kentucky in Hoover. In addition, Campbell, Bowling Green, Francis Marion, Georgia Southern, Miles College, Montevallo, South Alabama, Southern Illinois, UAB, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky will be participating in the 16-team event.

Seniors Marco Iten, who tied for fourth at Hilton Head, Anthony Bradley and Trey Tarpley will participate along with sophomores Austin Kramer and Chris Baker. Junior Tucker Wallace will play as an individual.

“We will have to be prepared this week because the field is strong with some traditionally great teams in the event,” Kayden said. ”The seniors have played the course before so this should help us tremendously.”
