Austin Peay State University Softball at Miami University RedHawks Saturday

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play the first games in the program’s history within the boundaries of the State of Ohio Saturday afternoon, as it squares off against Miami University in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3:00pm.

The Lady Govs (8-11) coming into the matchup riding a four-game win streak, the longest such streak since running off a five straight victories from February 16th to March 8th, 2013.

For Miami (4-8) it will be their first homes games of the 2014 season, as well as the fourth Ohio Valley Conference team the RedHawks have faced – going 2-1 so far with wins over Tennessee State and Murray State, while losing to Belmont.

Lauren de CastroOffensively, the Lady Govs are led by senior Lauren de Castro, who enters the weekend hitting at a .447 clip – with five doubles, a home run and six RBIs.

Sophomore Mel Pavel is also hitting above .300, coming in with a .333 batting average, three doubles and a team-leading 16 RBI.

In the circle, de Castro tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 5-4 win-loss record, including a 4.34 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 48.1 innings pitched.

Brianna BartuccioFreshman Brianna Bartuccio (2-5) has also picked things up in the circle, after a slow start on the season, picking up wins in her last two starts.

For Miami, Kristy Arbour leads the RedHawks with a .359 average, while Bree Lipscomb leads the team with two home runs and 10 RBI.

Paige Myers leads Miami’s pitchers with a 3-2 record, a 3.05 ERA and 24 strikeouts.

This will be the third straight season Austin Peay and Miami have met on the softball diamond, with the Lady Govs holding a 2-1 lead in the series.
