Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for March 9th, 2014

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Community clean-up at the Clarksville Greenway, 50 Plus Olympics, Queen City Road Race Registration, Arbor Day Celebration, Winter Gym and Archery.

2014 Queen City Road Race

Community clean-up at the Clarksville Greenway

On Saturday, March 22nd, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a clean-up at the Clarksville Greenway, located at 1101 Pollard Road, from 8:00am to 10:00am.

Anyone interested in participating in the Greenway clean-up should contact Melissa Adkins at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, or meet at the Clarksville Greenway on clean-up day. All clean-up equipment is provided.

50 Plus Olympics

Adults 50 and up, can face off for bragging rights as well as medals in over 20 challenging events! The cost to compete is $20.00 per person during early bird registration, now through April 25th, and $25.00 April 26th- May 5th. This fee includes a shirt and dinner at the end of the games, and you can purchase another dinner ticket for $10.00.

Queen City Road Race Registration

Registration for this popular race, featuring the 5K, 7K, and 1 Mile Movement, is now underway! Don’t miss out on early bird registration for the 5K & 7K; pay only $20.00, now through April 18th or $25.00 April 19th through race day.

Registration for the 1 Mile Movement is only $5.00! Cost include a Dri-fit t-shirt, with custom artwork from the winner of the Queen City Road Race Art Contest, Molly Clark.

Arbor Day Celebration

Celebrate Arbor Day with City Forester, Katy Stevenson, at Pisgah Elementary on March 14th at 1:00pm. Bruce Webster with the Tennessee Division of Forestry will be in attendance to hand out Tree City awards. Also in attendance, will be members of the Clarksville Tree Board.

After the event, there will be small trees handed out by the Tennessee Division of Forestry and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department. Species include; Over cup Oaks, Redbuds, and Southern Crab Apple.

Winter Gym

The winter gym program is coming to an end on March 26th. Come to any of our three Community Centers in between winter gym seasons, to take part in the events held there.

Archery

There are two archery programs beginning this month at two of our Community Centers.

Basic archery, teaches the basics of the sport to youth ages 9+. This program will be held on Tuesdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm at the Burt-Cobb Center March 18th-April 8th.

Olympic style archery expands on the basics and prepares participants for competition to youth in grades 4-12. Olympic style archery will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm at the Kleeman Center, April 7th-May 28th.
