With sophomore Jessica Cathey leading the way, the Lady Govs were able to move up one spot in the final standings from Monday’s eighth-place standing.

APSU finished at 643, tying it with West Georgia. Eastern Kentucky rallied to win the tourney, shooting a final-round 307 to finish at 625.

Evansville was second (629), followed by Indiana State and Marshall (611). First-round leader Murray State took fifth (633) with Belmont sixth (641) in the 13-team tournament.

Jessica Cathey“We did play better today,” APSU coach Sara Robson. “We are not where we need to be  but I thought the last nine holes we played pretty well as a team. We chipped and putted better, we just executed some shots.”

Cathey, meanwhile, backed up her 75 from Monday with a 77, Tuesday. Her 152 total left her in a third-place tie—the third time this season she has finished in third.

“Jessica played really well in this tournament,” Robson said. “She struggled some on the greens today but overall she did a good job of executing her shots.”

Morgan KauffmanFreshman Morgan Kauffman became the second Lady Gov to break 80 with a 79, Tuesday, leaving her 24th place with a two-day total of 162. Seniors Tala Mumford and Rachel Deaton bounced back from their respective 85s, Monday, to shoot matching 80s, Tuesday, to finish at 165. Freshman Morgan Gardner slipped to 85, Tuesday, to end at 169.

“Morgan’s (Kauffman) score is not really reflective of how well she played,” Robson said. “Even though she birdied the last hole, she lost some shots late. Once she learns to finish better, not allow herself to get frustrated over a bad shot, she will be fine.”

Playing as individuals, junior Meghan Mueller fired an 83, Tuesday, to end at 169, while freshman Amber Bosworth bounced back with an 86 in the final round to finish at 181.

“We are getting there little by little,” Robson said. “We are starting to come out of hibernation. Our short game is improving but that is one area we have to really work before next week (to Ocala, FL).”
