Murfreesboro, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team suffered a non-conference loss at Middle Tennessee, Thursday, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Blue Raiders.
The loss – Austin Peay’s first to Middle Tennessee since 2010 – drops the Govs to 6-3 on the season. The Blue Raiders improve to 5-9 on the year.
For the first time this season, juniors Dimitar Ristovski and Iago Seffrin suffered a loss in doubles. The pair dropped their match at No. 2 to David Fox and Sam Matheson, 8-6, leading to the Govs dropping the doubles point for the second time in Austin Peay’s last three matches.While Ristovski and Seffrin’s season-opening doubles win streak came to an end, Aleksas Tverijonas’ singles streak kept chugging along. The junior from Lithuania defeated Victor Hoang 6-4, 6-7, 10-4 in the No. 3 slot for his ninth straight win to start the season.
Freshman James Mitchell picked up his first win since February 22nd; the Australian came back from a first-set loss to defeat Matheson 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 at No. 5 singles.
The Govs return to action this weekend at Belmont (10:00am, Saturday) and back in Clarksville against Tennessee State (11:00am, Sunday).
