Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team returns to the Ohio Valley Conference fray with contests at Belmont (10:00am, Saturday) and against Tennessee State (11:00am, Sunday) this weekend.
The Lady Govs have won three of their last five and enter play 3-7 overall, 0-1 in the conference after dropping a 6-1 decision to Jacksonville State last weekend. Belmont (2-4, 0-1 OVC) and Tennessee State (0-5, 0-2 OVC) are each still winless in the conference after last weekend.The lower end of Belmont’s lineup has been the most consistent for the Bruins in the early parts of 2014. Freshman Abbie Mather is 4-1 overall during dual season operating out of the No. 4 and 5 slots in the Bruin lineup.
The Tigers are still seeking their first win in 2014 and have been shutout in all but one match so far. Trinity Randolph’s No. 2 win at Graceland, March 15th, is TSU’s lone singles conquest so far.
Juniors Ornella Di Salvo and Vanessa Tavares are tied for the Austin Peay lead with five wins apiece; Tavares carries a two-match win streak into the weekend.
The Lady Govs continue a three-match homestand next weekend when they host Eastern Illinois (10:00am, March 29th) and SIU Edwardsville (1:00pm, March 30th).
