APSU’s Lauren de Castro named OVC Softball Player of the Week

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Senior pitcher/outfielder Lauren de Castro, whose .588 batting average and 12 RBIs over six games this past week, has been selected adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week.

It is the second time in the Torrance, CA, native’s career that she has been so named, with the first time coming during her sophomore season for the week of March 26th, 2012.

She has also been named OVC Pitcher of the Week twice in her career.

The right-hander slugger finished the week going 10-for-17 at the plate, including two double and three home runs and finished with a 1.235 slugging percentage for a squad that went 5-1 over that stretch.

de Castro had two game-winning RBIs during the week – including driving in the only two runs in a 2-0 win over Tennessee State in Sunday’s first game of the doubleheader.

Lauren de CastroShe finished the week going 6-for-7 with runners in scoring position and averaging two RBIs per game. Six RBIs came with two outs.

She also walked four times and scored nine runs, while not striking out in 22 total plate appearances. Defensively, she handled all 12 chances in the field without an error.

Along with her hitting, the senior came away with a 3-1 record in the circle, with three complete-game victories – including two shutouts.

de Castro had a WHIP of 1.15 on the mound last week and finished the week with 18 strikeouts in 21.2 innings of work, while giving up just three walks.
