Austin Peay Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – When Austin Peay State University women’s soccer hosts its annual 7-on-7 spring soccer tournament next weekend, the Lady Govs also will be taking on a cause in addition to opponents.
This year’s event will have a fundraiser in conjunction with the games. Emma Curran is the daughter of two former Austin Peay student-athletes, Pat (a football player) and Amanda (a soccer player, formerly McLean) Curran. In 2012, she was diagnosed with a pediatric brain tumor; although she has faced a tough battle over the preceding months, Emma has completed a treatment plan and her prognosis is encouraging at this time. Although the tumor is inoperable, it is stable and no longer growing.
This year’s tournament will thus be named ‘Kickin’ it with Emma’, and the Austin Peay soccer program will raise funds through t-shirt sales and donations in order to make a contribution to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in Emma’s name. In addition to Austin Peay, Southeast Missouri, UT Martin and Bethel, teams of Lady Gov soccer alumni are scheduled to play in the event.
T-shirts for the event are $15.00 and can be pre-ordered by contacting Kelley Guth (guthk@apsu.edu). The tournament begins 11:00am, Saturday, April 5th at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
