Clarksville High Baseball gets extra innings win over Henry County thanks to Nolen Milton’s single

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville High School’s Nolen Milton blasted an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning, April 1st, to lift the Wildcats past Henry County High School 3-2 to remain undefeated in District 10-AAA.

Milton’s hit for Clarksville High (14-1, 6-0 10-AAA) drove in Brady Cook, who opened the bottom of the eighth inning with a triple off the base of the right-center field fence – just below the 357-foot mark.

“Brady had an outstanding swing on that ball and smoked it,” Clarksville High coach Brian Hetland said. “If there had been any wind at all it would have been a walk-off home run. He just continues to be a good leader for us.

Cook and Milton’s hits in the eighth inning were just the third and fourth of the game for the Wildcats off Henry County starter Jared Pugh, as the Patriots left-hander struck out nine and walked two in the complete-game loss.

“We knew we were going to be in a battle with that left-hander that they would be throwing,” Hetland said. “We saw him as a freshman last year and he’s given a lot of people trouble. We knew when he was on the mound they are a whole lot different team.”

Cook finished the night with two hits and three runs scored, while Milton – who also got the win in relief – drove in two.

Teal Young had the other hit for the Wildcats.

After trailing the Patriots 2-1 since the third inning, Clarksville High forced the extra innings by tying the game 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning with an unearned run.

Cook opened the inning by reaching on a hit by pitch and moved into scoring position at second base with his second stolen base of the night.

He would then move to third on an infield out and score the tying run when Henry County third baseman Cody McSwain couldn’t field a grounder off the bat of Donny Everett.

The Patriots had taken their final lead of the night, 2-1, in the third inning with Parker Piskos and Evan Pugh posting back-to-back doubles off CHS starter Ben Bleyle to open the inning.

Both teams had opened the contest by scoring a run in the first inning, with Henry County’s Pugh scoring on a groundout by Drake Walker; while Cook scored for CHS on a sacrifice fly by Milton.

Clarksville High returns to action April 2nd, as they host Father Ryan High School in a 6:30pm contest.
