Austin Peay State University Softball to host Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech this weekend

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will begin a eight-game homestand this weekend as it plays host to Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders at Cheryl Holt Field.

The Lady Govs’ (16-18, 5-4 OVC) weekend begins, noon, Saturday with a doubleheader versus OVC East Division leader Jacksonville State (24-9, 8-2 OVC), while Tennessee Tech (10-28, 2-8 OVC), which plays at Murray State,Saturday, comes in for a noon, Sunday doubleheader.

Offensively, through 34 games, senior Lauren de Castro leads the Lady Govs with a .400 batting average, including seven doubles and five home runs. She also leads the team with 21 RBI.

Kayla DavidsonAfter a slow start this season, senior Kayla Davidson has seen her batting average approach .300, entering the weekend hitting at a .287 clip with nine doubles, a triple and three home runs. She has 20 RBI.

The Gamecocks enter the weekend paced by the OVC’s leading hitter, Sara Barders, and her .451 batting average that includes nine doubles, a triple and nine home runs. She has a team-best 32 RBI.

Taylor Sloan (.353), Amanda Maldonado (.342), Kalee Tabor (.330) and Ella Denes (.314) are also hitting more than .300 for Jacksonville State.

Lauren de CastroIn the circle, de Castro tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with an 11-6 win-loss mark and a 3.17 ERA. She has struck out 71 batters in 95 inning of work this season.

A pair of freshmen, Sidney Hooper (3-4, 5.25 ERA) and Brianna Bartuccio (2-7, 6.30 ERA), have the other APSU wins this season.

Tiffany Harbin leads JSU pitchers with a 9-5 record and an ERA of 2.96. She has recorded 101 strikeouts in just 85 innings pitched this season.
