With the two shutouts, Jacksonville State (26-9, 10-2 OVC) ran its string of scoreless innings against Ohio Valley Conference opponents to 35 straight.

In Game 1, Jacksonville State (26-9, 10-2 OVC) got out to a 1-0 in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Savannah Sloan, but a four-run second inning broke the game open – highlighted by an Ella Denes three-run homer that made it 5-0.

That would be more than enough for JSU starter Tiffany Harbin (10-5), who took a perfect game into the top of the fourth inning, before APSU’s Marissa Lake singled up the middle for the Lady Govs (16-20, 5-6 OVC) first base runner of the game.

Marissa LakeHarbin finished the game with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

The Gamecocks would add singles runs in the third and sixth innings to push its lead out to 7-0, then capped off the opening game with a six-run seventh inning – highlighted by a two-run triple by Sara Borders — for the 13-0 final.

Five different Gamecock hitters recorded at least two hits in the opener, led by Sloan and Borders 3-for-5 efforts, while Denes, Amanda Maldonado and Hayden Crawford had two hit each.

Mel PavelMel Pavel had the Lady Govs other hit, a single to open the bottom of the seventh inning.

Game 2 would start out much like the opener for Jacksonville State, as they jumped out to a 1- lead on an RBI single by Boarders that drove in Sloan – who had tripled.

Sloan would make it 3-0 with a two-run homer in the top of the third inning, while a two-run single by Crawford in the fourth made it 5-0 Gamecocks.

Sloan finished the nightcap with three hits, with Melanie Steer collecting two hits for JSU.

Logan Green (7-2) got the complete-game shutout win, giving up the four hits, while striking out three.

Lauren de Castro (11-7) took the loss for Austin Peay, while Pavel led the Lady Govs with two hits – including a double.

Niya Sparks and de Castro had APSU’s other two hits.

The Lady Govs return to action April 6th, as they host Tennessee Tech University (11-29, 3-9 OVC) in an OVC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
