Morehead, KY – A fifth consecutive loss at the doubles point proved too much for Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team to overcome at Morehead State, Saturday, ultimately leading to a 5-2 Lady Govs loss.
Despite picking up a doubles victory by senior Andra Cornea and junior Ornella Di Salvo, Austin Peay could not secure the doubles point. It’s a trend that has haunted the Lady Govs during OVC play – Austin Peay has not won a doubles point in OVC play since April 7th, 2013 against Belmont. For Cornea and Di Salvo, the 8-6 win against Briar Preston and Alex Tachovsky is the pairing’s seventh victory this season.
Although four Lady Govs took home straight-set singles losses, a pair of Austin Peay athletes came away with victories. Junior Vanessa Tavares snapped a three-match losing streak with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Dominique McLean at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Hannah Tatlock continued her winning ways, knocking off Sandrine Beaule 6-4, 7-6 at No. 5. The win is the third in a row for Tatlock and her eighth during the spring campaign, tying her with Di Salvo for the team high.
Austin Peay’s Kentucky road trip continues Sunday when the Lady Govs face Eastern Kentucky at 10:00am in Richmond.
