The win gives Austin Peay a 12-5 mark overall (7-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference) this season.

With the win, the Govs need a loss by Jacksonville State (to Morehead State) or losses by Belmont against SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois to earn a first-round bye in next week’s OVC Tournament in Paducah, KY.

“Good way to finish off the OVC schedule,” said head coach Ross Brown. “It was very windy out there today, but the guys stuck with it and got the job done.”

The Govs were rarely challenged on the day, needing just over two hours to complete the sweep. In doubles, sophomore Evan Borowski and freshman Manuel Montenegro dominated the No. 3 match, defeating Anjan Kashyab and Mateo Barroetavena, 8-1.

No Gov was forced into a third set against the Racers in singles play. Despite illness, senior Jasmin Ademovic hung on to defeat Adam Taylor (6-4, 6-3) at No. 1. Other notable victories by the Govs included junior Aleksas Tverijonas’ 6-0, 6-1 win against Nicholas Mitric at No. 3 – his 43rd win in his last 46 spring dual matches – and junior Iago Seffrin’s eighth singles win in a row (6-4, 6-2) against David Hess at No. 4.

Montenegro, junior Dimitar Ristovski and freshman James Mitchell also snagged singles wins for Austin Peay.

Austin Peay closes regular season play with a trip to face 35th-ranked Louisville, 3:00pm, Sunday.

“I’m very pleased with how well Jasmin played after being sick this week,” Brown said. “Now we face very strong competition at Louisville, which will be great for us before the conference championships.”
