The Govs did keep pace early, scoring four runs in the first inning to claim a 4-2 lead. However, a two-run second inning only saw the Govs cut their deficit, trailing 8-6 after two. Austin Peay’s offense then was held to one run over the final seven innings.

Southeast Missouri (24-11, 15-3 OVC) struck for 14 runs in the game’s first four innings. The Redhawks scored six runs in the second and tacked on three runs in both the third and fourth innings to build a comfortable 14-6 lead.

Austin Peay starter Levi Primasing (2-3) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on six hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. Austin Peay used six pitchers in the contest. Reliever Jake Corum tossed a scoreless fifth inning and reliever Shane Lantigua added a scoreless eighth, but all six relievers surrendered at least one run.

First baseman Matt Tellor led Southeast Missouri with a 5-for-6, five RBI outing that included a RBI double in the second and a two-run double in the fourth. The Redhawks finished with 20 hits and were aided by nine walks surrendered by APSU pitching.

Austin Peay left fielder Cayce Bredlau went 3-for-5 and scored twice. First baseman Dre Gleason was 1-for-2 with a RBI and had the Govs lone extra-base hit – a leadoff double in the fifth inning.

The Govs begin a four-game road trip when they meet Southern Illinois in a 6:00pm, Wednesday contest.
