Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for April 13th, 2014

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Hershey Track and Field, School is out come Swim, Queen City Road Race Early Bird Deadline, Sleep Under the Stars and Movies in the Park.

2014 Queen City Road Race

Hershey Track and Field

Hershey Track and FieldHershey Track and Field practices are underway! Practices for this year’s competition are held every Thursday from 4:30pm-5:30pm at the Rossview High School track. Practices will continue through May 8th. Practice attendance is not mandatory to compete at the local competition.

Young athletes will be able to showcase their talents by participating in track, long jump, and softball throw in the 2014 Hershey Track and Field competition. This program is open to boys and girls ages 9-14 in the Clarksville-Montgomery County area.

The local competition will be held at 9:00am on May 10th at the Rossview High School Track. Athletes placing first in the local competition advance to the district competition and compete for a place in the statewide competition. Practice attendance is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory to compete in the local competition on May 10th.

School is out, come Swim

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceThe Indoor Aquatic Center will adjust their hours of operation Friday, April 18th to accommodate students in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and their holiday schedule.

The Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, will be open from 6:30am-8:00pm. The inflatable obstacle course, The Aqua Run Wibit, and the AquaClimb climbing wall will be available. Wristbands are required for access to these features.

Cost of wristbands is $2.00 for all day access; except for on Wednesdays, when Wibit access is always free with paid admission.

Queen City Road Race Early Bird Deadline Quickly Approaching

36th Annual Queen City Road RaceThe 36th Annual Queen City Road Race early bird registration ends Friday, April 18, so hurry and register today! After April 18th the price goes up to $25.00. Don’t miss out on $20.00 registration, and this popular race!

All ages are welcome Saturday, May 3rd to participate in any of these events, 5K, 7K, and the 1 Mile Movement. Register online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

Sleep Under the Stars

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Spring Family Campout

Sleep under the StarsThe City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites you to sleep under the stars at Billy Dunlop Park. Registration is underway for the spring Family Campout beginning at 2:00pm Saturday, May 17th, until 9:00am Sunday, May 18th at the park located at 1930 East Boy Scout Road. Activities will include a bonfire, games, ghost stories and lots of fun!

The Family Campout is $10.00 per person or $40.00 per family (up to 6 members) and will include an afternoon and evening of games and fun as well as a hot dog dinner and breakfast provided Sunday morning. Families will need to provide their own tent and sleeping materials.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Don’t miss out on your chance to sleep under the stars with your neighbors. Pre-register by May 16th at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office located at 102 Public Square or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com .

Movies in the Park

Clarksville Parks and Recreation's Movies in the ParkMovies in the Park returns again this May! Come out to Heritage Park on May 10th for the first movie of the summer, and enjoy time with friends and family. Make sure to get there early so you have a seat, and to enjoy all the fun activities before the movie starts!

All movies will begin at dusk, and please remember no pets and no smoking.
