There were 5,000 eggs scattered between four separate lanes on the field. Each of the sections had two prize eggs with tickets inside. Each child was also given a ticket for a chance to win one of three door prizes at the end of the hunt.

Along with the eggs, there was over 1,000 pieces of candy.

“It took several days for our volunteers to get the eggs and everything else ready,” said Cunningham Volunteer Fire Department Captain William Jackson. “This is something we do to give back to the community that does so much for us.”

The Easter egg hunt was broken down into four age groups; ages 2 and under, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-11. The 2 and under group started first, then each of the other groups were lined the go ahead, one at a time.

Once the Easter egg hunt started, the children went forth sweeping the field clean of eggs. Within minutes, all the eggs had been scooped up. The kids then sat down and began opening each each hoping to find a prize ticket. From the smiles on everyone’s faces, it was easy to tell that everybody had a good time.

“Last year it was a little cold, but our turnout was still over 120 children,” stated Jackson. “This year, the weather was perfect. There was just over 175 kids at this year’s event. It was the largest turnout we’ve had in the eight years of doing this.”

The prizes were Easter baskets filled with candy and goodies. The door prizes were stuffed animals along with candy.
