Austin Peay (14-22) returns to the road after a home weekend against Southeast Missouri.

The Govs offense scored 38 runs in the three-game Ohio Valley Conference set, but was only able to win the opening game by a 22-4 margin. APSU lost a one-run extra-inning affair in Game 2 before suffering a double-digit Sunday loss.

Southern Illinois (18-17) will complete a five-game homestand with Wednesday’s contest. The Saulkis have played nine of their last 10 at home but have just three wins in those home outings, prior to a Tuesday contest against UT Martin.

Austin Peay right-hander Caleb Powell will make the start in Carbondale and will seek to improve on his 0-1 record and 7.81 ERA this season.

Southern Illinois will counter with right-hander Austin McPheron who brings a 1-1 record and 2.87 ERA into the midweek affair.

Wednesday’s meeting will complete the home-and-home series between the two teams. Southern Illinois won the season’s first meeting, 14-4, February 18th in the season’s first week. Powell started that contest for APSU, allowing two runs in four innings.

However, the Govs bullpen surrendered 10 runs in the final six frames while the Salukis relief corps held the Govs to two hits in the final seven innings.
