APSU Athlete of the Week Marco Iten

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior Marco Iten, of the Austin Peay State University men’s golf team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Iten has now won two of his last three tournaments after earning co-medalist honors at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championships with a nine-under par 207 (71-70-66) to top the field of 78. The three-round 207 was a career low for the Swiss-bred Iten, who led the Govs to a fifth-place tie with Chattanooga and South Alabama in the 15-team field.

The final-round 66 was Iten’s lowest 18-hole score in his Austin Peay career. He’s now second in the Ohio Valley Conference in stroke average (72.5). He now ranks 154th nationally, according to the latest GolfStat.com rankings.

Thursday, Iten earned his third OVC Male Golfer of the Week honor, sharing the award with Jacksonville State’s Franco Grillo. For Iten, it was his second consecutive weekly honor and third in the last four weeks.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior sprinter Erika Adams, of the track and field team, broke the school record in the 100m dash with an 11.81 at the Hilltopper Relays, earning runner-up honors. She also finished third in the 200m dash (24.23) and ran a leg of the 4x100m relay team that earned runner-up honors (46.06).
  • Freshman Hannah Tatlock, of the women’s tennis team, capped her first year in an Austin Peay uniform with a pair of wins against UT Martin’s Jessica Silva (6-2, 6-1) and Southeast Missouri’s Melissa Martin (7-6, 6-2); she concluded her freshman campaign as Austin Peay’s singles wins leader with 10.
  • Freshman first baseman Dre Gleason, of the baseball team, was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week after hitting .533 (8-for-15) with two home runs, four runs scored and eight batted in, including the game-winning RBI in the Govs 5-3 win against Memphis, Wednesday.
