After a strong meet at last weekend’s Hilltopper Relays, the Lady Govs look to continue that against a tough field.

Austin Peay will face athletes from Missouri, Bradley and Northern Iowa, along with Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville. The trip will mark Austin Peay’s first visit to SIU Edwardsville since 2008.

The Lady Govs saw both the 100m and 200m dash records fall last weekend, making it three broken records during the spring for Austin Peay.

Maikea DavisJunior Maikea Davis has broken the 200m dash mark three times already, while Erika Adams 100m record last week broke Roni Hopkins’ mark that had stood since 2002.

Last weekend’s Hilltopper Relays propelled several Lady Govs either into the OVC’s top-10 in their respective events or moved them up the lists. Of the 27 Austin Peay athletes currently owning one of the conference’s 10 best marks in their event, 19 earned those times or distances in Bowling Green, KY, last weekend.

With two weeks remaining until the conference championship gets underway, several Lady Govs have put themselves in position to contend for medals.

Freshman Kaylnn Pitts still leads all competitors in the triple jump at 12.53m, while Adams (100m) and sophomore Breigh Jones (400m) are second in their events entering the weekend. The sprinters are also part of a relay group that ranks second in both the 4x100m and 4x400m events, with Jones running legs in both disciplines for Austin Peay.

Xiamar HudsonDavis (200m), senior Xiamar Hudson (1500m) and junior Natalie Olberding (400m hurdles) rank third on the track, while freshman Briana Kelly (high jump) and Amia Butler (long jump) are also on pace to medal in the field.

This will be Austin Peay’s final weekend meet before the conference championships. The Lady Govs head back to Murray State Tuesday, April 22nd, in their final scheduled competition before the May 2nd-3rd OVC Outdoor Championships.
