Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior Marco Iten, of the Austin Peay State University men’s golf team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Iten took individual medalist honors in the rain-shortened Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championships at the Fighting Joe in Muscle Shoals, AL, last weekend. His 8-under par 136 (68-68) after two rounds placed him a shot ahead of Jacksonville State’s Camilo Aguado, Saturday, and gave him the championship when rain halted the event for good after six holes on Sunday.

Ranked 182nd nationally by Golfstat.com entering the weekend, Iten was one of only two players to shoot in the 60s in both rounds of the OVC Championship – his fifth and sixth rounds in the 60s this season.

Iten’s triumph earned him the right to represent Austin Peay at the NCAA Regionals, May 15th-17th. He will be the fourth Gov to play a Regional as an individual and make it three straight years that at least one Austin Peay men’s golfer has advanced to Regional play.

In addition to earning medalist honors, Iten was named OVC Golfer of the Year in a vote of conference coaches and earned his third consecutive All-OVC nod. Monday, he was awarded Austin Peay’s Male Athlete of the Year Award for 2013-14.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Sophomore Jessica Cathey, of the women’s golf team, earned her second consecutive All-OVC nod and finished eighth overall at the OVC Championships with a three-round 231 (79-76-76) to lead Austin Peay to a sixth-place finish in the OVC Women’s Golf Championships.
  • Freshman Alex Robles, of the baseball team, stuck out a career-high 13 batters and allowed just one earned run in seven innings against Eastern Kentucky, Friday, keeping the Govs in the series-opener against the Colonels long enough for Austin Peay to earn a 6-5 walk-off, come-from-behind win.
