Clarksville High Lady Wildcats Softball romps over Northeast Lady Eagles 16-6, Force Game Three

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – What a difference a day makes.

One day ago, the Clarksville Lady Wildcats waged a seven-inning battle against the Northeast Lady Eagles, both teams combining to score three runs and the Lady Wildcats losing 2-1.

A day later, on Wednesday, May 7th, the Lady Wildcats had to defeat the Kenwood Lady Knights to get a rematch against the Lady Eagles and possibly force a third game to determine the 2014 District 10-AAA Tournament Champion.

Not only did the Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Knights 7-1, they went on to pounce on the Lady Eagles, defeating them in the rematch 24 hours later, 16-6.

Both teams were swinging for the fences. They each produced double-digit hits-Lady Eagles 11 and the Lady Wildcats 19.

However, the game came down to a monster third inning by the Lady Wildcats, in which they plated six runs from five hits. Ahead 9-4 after four innings, they added four more runs in the fifth and three in the seventh to firmly secure their win.

Ericka Webster was tagged with the loss. She allowed nine of the 16 runs from eight hits. Heather Norris earned the win in relief for the Lady Wildcats. Norris allowed two runs from two hits and struck out three.

The two teams were tied 3-3 after two innings. Webster had left the mound after pitching 1 1/3 innings, but she returned in the third. Unfortunately for her, the Lady Wildcats were waiting for her.

Clare Grady got things started for the Lady Wildcats in the third with a lead off single. Next up, Haley Bearden hit a double to send Grady to third. The double was Bearden’s second hit of the day. In her first at bat she hit the first pitch she saw over the centerfield fence and into the adjacent soccer field for a two-run homer.

Peyton Wilson brought Grady and Bearden in with a line drive double to the left field fence. Next, Tiana Gray hit a single and advanced to second on the infield throw.

Katelyn Devers picked up an unusual RBI after she struck out, but got to first on the missed ball and high throw to first by the Lady Eagles catcher.

After Katie Keen was walked, Norris hit a bloop shot over first base that rolled to the corner, allowed three runs to score, and Norris to advance to third base.

After those six runs in the third, the Lady Wildcats continued to widen a gap the Lady Eagles could not close with seven more runs.

Lady Eagle Autumn Adams hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. She batted 2-for-4 with a home run and a single on the day. Alicia Veltri and Ciara Aragon both hit multiple RBIs in the game.

Seven different Lady Wildcats had multiple hits in the game. Bearden hit a two-run homer, a double, a sac fly RBI and an RBI single. Grady batted 3-for-4 including an RBI double. Wilson hit 2-for-5 with four RBIs.

Because it was the Lady Eagles first loss in the double elimination tournament and the Lady Wildcats lost to them just one day before, the two teams must play for a third time Thursday, May 8th to determine the tournament champion.

The District 10-AAA All District Team was announced after the game. Norris was named the District MVP. Bearden earned District Offensive MVP honors. Webster was named the District Defensive MVP. The full All District Team is listed below.
