Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team staged another come-from-behind rally to post a 6-3 victory against Lipscomb, Tuesday night at Dugan Field. The win gave the Govs their first three-game win streak of the 2014 campaign.

Trailing 3-0 after four innings, Austin Peay (23-31) rallied to tie the game with a three-run fifth inning. Left fielder Tommy Hager and second baseman Logan Gray each walked to start the frame. The Govs surrendered a pair of outs before right fielder Rolando Gautier singled to right field, allowing both runners to score. Gautier then scored on third baseman Alex Robles’ single, tying the game.

The Govs took the lead on their next turn at bat. Catcher Ridge Smith struck out but beat the throw to first. That effort proved pivotal as designated hitter P.J. Torres doubled into the left field corner and Smith beat the throw home to give the Govs a 4-3 lead.

Smith would add to the Govs lead with a solo home run in the eighth. The Govs would take advantage of Bisons error in the ninth to tack on another insurance run and set the final margin.

Lipscomb (28-25) opened the game’s scoring with first baseman Adam Lee’s two-run single in the first. An Austin Peay error aided the Bisons scoring a run in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead. However, Lipscomb also left four runners stranded at third base in the first six innings.

Govs reliever Zach Walton (1-2), the fourth of eight pitchers, picked up his first collegiate win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. He was part of an Austin Peay bullpen that did not allow an earned run in the final seven innings of the contest. Closer Ryan Quick struck out two batters in the ninth to pick up his third save.

Gautier and Robles each went 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Govs 10-hit attack.

Lipscomb reliever Tyson Ashcraft suffered the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the fourth. Seven Bisons hitters each had one hit to account for their seven total hits.

Austin Peay continues its four-game road trip with a 6:00pm, Thursday contest at SIU Edwardsville that will start a pivotal three-game Ohio Valley Conference series for both squads.
