Rossview High School HawksClarksville, TN – For the fourth year in a row, the Rossview Hawks baseball team advanced to play in Sectional competition. For the first time, they hosted a sectional game against the Ravenwood Raptors Friday, May 16th. However, despite playing at home, the Hawks season ended for the fourth straight time in sectionals. They lost to the Raptors 13-4.

The Hawks came into Friday’s game allowing only 16 runs in the last nine games, but the red hot bats of the Raptors plated 13 runs from 12 hits, including five home runs.

The Raptors scored in six of the seven innings. They were ahead 5-2 after three innings and took complete control of the game by generating five runs in the fourth.

Ravenwood’s pitcher Bryce Denton terrorized the Hawks in the field and at home plate. Not only did Denton pitch six innings to earn the win with eight strikeouts, he also batted 4-for-4 with three home runs, and an RBI single.

Denton allowed four runs from five hits over six innings. Micah Kaczor closed the game, allowing no hits or runs in the seventh inning.

Kaczor and Denton were two of the three Raptors to hit a home run. Luke Yates also hit a 2-run homer in the game.

The hits started early and just kept coming for the Raptors. Hawk’s starting pitcher, Brett Wilson, picked up the loss. Wilson lasted only 1 1/3 innings. He allowed three hits for three runs before being pulled.

Hunter Blake took most of the damage from Ravenwood’s bats. In four innings, he allowed 10 runs from nine hits with one strikeout.

Only three Hawks produced hits in the game. Colin Baber and Lawson Moquin both got multiple hits. Moquin batted 2-for-4 with two singles. Baber hit 2-for-3 with two singles as well.

Five different Raptors generated hits, including Denton and Kaczor. In addition, to the home runs, five errors made it a rough night for the Hawks defense.

Three home runs hit in the first three innings put the Raptors up 5-2. Denton hit two of them over the left field fence in his first two at bats. The second was a two-run shot. Yates hit his 2-run homer on his first at bat in the second inning.

The Hawks two runs came in the bottom of the third inning. A walk and two singles loaded the bases for Truman Brown who hit a sac fly to score the first run. The second run came in when Blake Kiely reached on an error by the Raptor’s shortstop.

The two runs scored by the Hawks in the third to cut Ravenwood’s lead down to three raised Hawk’s fans hope of an eventual rally. However, those hopes were short lived as more hits and errors allowed the Raptors to plate 5 runs in the fourth.

Leading off in the top of the fourth, Darrell Freeman got the Raptors started when he reached on a error by the Hawks third baseman. Next, both Yates and Matthew Dudas hit singles to load the bases.

Another Rossview infield error allowed Kaczor to reach on a fielders choice and one run to score. Another run scored as the Hawks got their first out on a fielder’s choice.

Next, Ryan Beamish hit a line drive up the middle for an RBI single. Denton followed up with his only hit that did not go over the fence for another RBI single. The final run of the inning scored when Rossview’s catcher made a bad throw to third base, trying to pick off a runner.

Ahead 10-2 after four innings, the Raptors padded their lead with three more runs. The Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the game to the seventh inning, but the nine run gap was too much for them to overcome.

The Hawks finish the season 24-13-1.
