Jimmy Nelson Collects 5th Win and 9th Quality Start

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds outdueled the visiting Oklahoma City RedHawks by a narrow 2-1 margin in Sunday afternoon’s series finale at Greer Stadium.

The Milwaukee Brewers top prospect fanned five Oklahoma batters en route to his fifth victory of the season before reliever Brent Leach took over in the eighth.

The Sounds offense was held hitless through the first four innings, but picked up three base knocks in the fifth inning to break out of a scoreless tie with a pair of runs.

Outfielder Jeremy Hermida cracked a broken bat infield single to start the action for Nashville and came around to score on Taylor Green’s double to the right-field corner. Green advanced to third on the throw to home plate and was driven home on Kevin Mattison’s single into shallow right field.

Pete Orr recorded Nashville’s fourth and final hit in the eighth inning; both teams finished with four hits.

Closer Donovan Hand logged 1 1/3 scoreless innings to notch his eighth save of the season, one shy of the PCL lead.

Adron Chambers plated the RedHawks only run of the game, scoring on a groundout after leading off the sixth inning with a single up the middle.

RedHawks starting pitcher and the Astros number four-rated prospect Mike Foltynewicz (3-3) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings.

The Sounds will begin a fresh four-game set against the Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA-Kansas City Royals) on Monday night at Greer Stadium with LHP Brad Mills (3-0, 1.45) getting the start for Nashville opposite Omaha’s RHP P.J. Walters (0-4, 9.10). Broadcaster Jeff Hem has the call on 102.5 The Game.
