Greer Stadium Hosts Season-High Crowd of 9,889 Fans

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN The Nashville Sounds managed only one run, striking out 13 times, in Tuesday morning’s 4-1 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers before a season-high Greer Stadium crowd of 9,889 fans on Education Day.

Outfielder Sean Halton helped the Sounds out to a 1-0 lead in the team’s final pre-noon start of the season by ripping a single into left field to score Irving Falu in the first inning.

The Storm Chasers answered in the top of the second with a run courtesy of Melky Mesa’s RBI-single, and took the lead in the fourth on Matt Fields’ two-out RBI-double off of Sounds starter Ariel Pena (2-4).

Pena celebrated his 25th birthday with a quality start, limiting Omaha to two runs on four hits over six innings of work.

The right-handed Dominican took the loss, however, exiting the game after the sixth trailing 2-1. He fanned six batters and walked four.

Reliever Kyle Heckathorn worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning, but surrendered a two-run home run to Omaha’s designated hitter Carlos Peguero in the eighth, which gave the visitors the 4-1 advantage.

Nashville received a two-hit performance from Eugenio Velez, while infielder Taylor Green extended his hit streak to a season-best five games with a single in the seventh inning. He holds the team’s longest active hit streak.

Omaha starter John Lamb collected the win, his second, fanning seven Sounds batters and holding Nashville to one run on six hits through 5 1/3 innings. Spencer Patton got the save, his seventh.

The Sounds will host a doubleheader with the Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA-Royals) on Wednesday at Greer Stadium. RHP Mike Fiers (6-1, 2.01) takes the start in the opener opposite RHP Sugar Ray Marimon (3-2, 2.41), while RHP Michael Blazek (0-2, 5.40) will start in the nightcap against Omaha lefty Ryan Verdugo (NR). Broadcaster Jeff Hem has the call on 102.5 The Game.
