Clarksville, TN – Senior Marco Iten, of the Austin Peay State University men’s golf team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Iten became the first golfer in Ohio Valley Conference history to win an NCAA Regional last week, taking the Auburn Regional by four shots with an eight-under par 208 (71-70-67). Along the way, Iten defeated 18 players ranked in the top-100 by Golfstat.com, including three top-10 players – among them Alabama’s Robby Shelton, the nation’s No. 1 individual golfer.
He played one-under through the first nine holes, fending off a charge from Texas’ Beau Hossler – who finished tied for 29th at the 2012 U.S. Open Championship – and holing out a 30-yarder on No. 16 for birdie after hitting a shot in the water.
After remaining in the hunt through nine holes, Iten shot four-under par on his final nine of the tournament, including birdies on three of the last four holes to put some distance between himself and the rest of the field.
Iten will represent Austin Peay at the NCAA Championships this weekend in Hutchinson, Kansas, becoming the third Gov ever and second in as many years to advance to the final weekend of NCAA Tournament play.

- Sophomore pitcher Jared Carkuff, of the baseball team, was a hard-luck loser for Austin Peay against SIU Edwardsville this weekend, tossing eight innings of three-hit, one-run ball in the Govs Game 2 loss in Edwardsville.
- Freshman jumper Brianna Kelly, of the track and field team, tied for fifth in the high jump at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a personal-best 1.71m (5’ 7.25”) leap to move into 74th place in the NCAA East Region.
