Nashville Zoo to host Conservation Lecture Thursday, June 5th

Nashville ZooNashville, TN – Nashville Zoo is pleased to present Keepers of the Wild, an evening lecture with wildlife photographer Christian Sperka on Thursday, June 5th at 6:00pm. The presentation featuring Sperka’s images will take place in the Zoo’s Croft Center and is free to the public.

Sperka has spent the past two years working as a field guide and wildlife photograph er at the Thanda Private Game Reserve in Northern Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. His lecture will focus on the conservation efforts and challenges of a private game reserve in South Africa and the rising threat to Africa’s rhino population.

Since 2001, Sperk a has traveled the world photographing animals in South Africa, Namibia, Costa Rica, Yellowstone National Park as well as zoos in Europe and the United States. His work has been featured in wildlife magazines, books and zoo publications.

His presentations about animal photography and wildlife conservation have been enjoyed by photography clubs, schools, universities and many other organizations around the world. From 2009 to 2012, Sperka worked as the official photographer for Nashville Zoo. He was honored with a commendation by Nashville Mayor Karl Dean for his work during his stay in Music City.

Nashville Zoo is accredited by the prestigious Association of Zoos and Aquariums, assuring the highest standards of animal care and husbandry. Attracting more than 776,000 visitors annually, the Zoo is considered one of the top things to do in Nashville.
