Taylor Jungmann Works Second Straight Quality Start For First-Place Nashville

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds proved once again why scoring first usually means a victory in a 4-1 win over the Iowa Cubs at Greer Stadium Monday night.

Nashville is now 24-9 when getting on the board before the opposition, including a 16-1 record when doing so at home.

The Sounds scored the all-important first runs in the bottom of the second with a two-out rally, which was started by a Matt Pagnozzi single. Third baseman Taylor Green and pitcher Taylor Jungmann then followed with RBI singles to give Nashville a 2-0 advantage.

Iowa got a run back in the top of the fourth when Logan Watkins reached on an error by Hunter Morris. He would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Jungmann, the No. 6 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers system according to Baseball America, turned in his second straight quality start, allowing no earned runs in 6.1 innings and striking out eight I-Cubs. He finished the homestand with a 2-0 record and a 0.74 ERA.

The Sounds got some breathing room in the bottom of the sixth when Caleb Gindl hit a 2-1 pitch over the right field wall for a home run. The dinger snapped Iowa Starter Dallas Beeler’s streak of retiring 10 straight Nashville hitters.

Beeler finished the game with a quality start of his own, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on five hits.

Nashville got its final insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Jeff Bianchi scored because of two I-Cubs errors.

The Sounds bullpen closed the game out with another stellar performance from a number of pitchers. Jeremy Jefferess threw a clean inning, while Brewers reliever Tom Gorzelanny retired both batters he faced in another rehab outing.

Donovan Hand picked up his 12th save of year after pitching a scoreless ninth. Hand has now strung together eight consecutive scoreless outings and has converted his last four save opportunities.

The Sounds will conclude the current homestand with a Tuesday matinee at 12:05pm. LHP Brad Mills (4-0, 1.74 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Sounds, and he is slated to face Iowa LHP Tsuyoshi Wada (4-2, 2.35). Jeff Hem has the call on 102.5-FM “The GAME”.
