APSU Hispanic Alumni Chapter Scholarship to hold World Cup viewing party fundraiser

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Experience the 2014 FIFA World Cup at the Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant, located at 700 North Riverside Drive, with Austin Peay State University’s Hispanic Cultural Center and Hispanic Alumni Center on Thursday, June 12th. This will be the first of 64 matches, which includes the national teams of 32 countries.

Members of the Austin Peay community are invited to help grow the Hispanic Alumni Chapter’s scholarship endowment by eating in or ordering food from Casa Blanca between 2:30pm-4:30pm on June 12th.

During the event, the restaurant will not be applying a 10 percent APSU discount to food orders. Instead, it will donate these proceeds to the Hispanic Alumni Chapter’s scholarship endowment.

Members of the Clarksville community are invited to join in the festivities. In addition to supporting this local business, Clarksville community members can also inquire how to make direct donations to the fund. This family friendly event will include a viewing of the first match, Brazil against Croatia, and the sponsors will have giveaways for participants, such as FIFA sticker albums, stickers, t-shirts and much more.

With the rising cost of college and the growth of the Hispanic community in the middle Tennessee region, it is more important than ever for the Hispanic Alumni Chapter to provide scholarship support to students. Since the establishment of the Austin Peay Hispanic Alumni Chapter in October 2010, co-founder and current Chapter President Rosa Ponce had felt that the creation of a scholarship “would be the best way to give back to Austin Peay and the community.”

“Let’s join fans around the world as the World Cup kicks off and have some family fun with our World Cup sticker exchange, and you will also be supporting an APSU scholarship endowment,” Ponce said.

For more information, contact Ponce at apsuhispanicalumni@gmail.com. To make a donation, please contact the National Alumni Association at 931.221.7979.
