Tyler Guy, Hunter Richardson lead Bud Light Two-Man Scramble after opening-round 57

Clarksville Golf AssociationClarksville, TN – Tyler Guy and Hunter Richardson will be applying their golf skills with the University of Tennessee at Martin this coming fall, but showed a little early teamwork June 21st at Swan Lake Gold Course, as the pair combined to shot an opening-round 57 (14 under) to lead the Bud Light Two-Man Scramble by three shots.

Guy — who will be a junior — and Richardson, an incoming freshman for the Skyhawks this fall, were the only team to post a round in the 50’s, with the teams of Brian Balthrop and Josh Black, Johnathan Sewell and Sam Gentry, Greg Guinn and Todd Greene, and Rob Clouser and Steven Huff all coming in with opening rounds of 60.

“It took us a few holes to finally figure out the chemistry a little bit,” Guy said. “Once we got that figured out, when we really got hot on the back side and played the last five or six holes in six or seven under, so we caught fire and kind of kept it going.”

There are nine other teams that shot rounds of 64 or better in the opening round and are still in the hunt.

In the senior division, two teams – Steve Blackwell and Mike Welker, and Brad VanKirk and Mike Bell — sit atop of the leaderboard with a pair of 12-under 59’s after the first 18 holes of play.

“We brother-in-lawed it pretty good today,” said Welker of his opening round with Blackwell. “We just kept it in the fairway and seemed to have good yardage all day. Then with the 60- or 70-yard shot, we hit that well, and then we made some putts.

“We just didn’t have any bad holes where we struggled for par. We hit it pretty close all day.”

A pair of teams, Mike Taylor and Jimmy Mashburn, and Terry Yarbrough and Dennis Rice are two shots back with 61’s, with three other teams – Bruce Walker and Barker Seay, Ray Johnson and Ronnie Seay, and David Edmondson and Billy Gray four shots of the pace with opening rounds of 63.

The scramble concludes June 22nd, with the final group of the day teeing off at 12:30pm.
