Nashville’s Jeremy Hermida Goes 3-for-4; Sounds Now Half-Game Out of First

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds (42-40) continued their offensive hot streak to their third-straight victory, a 6-4 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday night at Greer Stadium. The win clinched another home series victory for Nashville, which is now 6-1-3 in home series during the 2014 series.

The Sounds were paced by outfielder Jeremy Hermida, who went 3-for-4 including a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth that proved to be the game-winning hit. Hermida finished the four-game series against New Orleans going 5-for-11 with a home run and 3 RBIs.

Hunter Morris got the back-and-forth affair started in the bottom of the first by blasting a two-run homer to right field. The Sounds are now 23-1 at home when scoring first this season, and Morris is now hitting .344 (11-for-32) in his last eight games.

New Orleans answered with a run in the top of the second on a Kyle Jensen double, and then tied the game in the top of the third when pitcher Brad Hand hit a home run.

Nashville briefly took the lead again on a Sean Halton single in the bottom of the fourth, but the advantage wouldn’t last long as Zephyrs reliever Jesus Sanchez knocked in two runs on an infield single in the top of the fourth. Nashville later tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Hector Gomez triple.

The Nashville bullpen again shined behind starter Michael Blazek, as Kyle Heckathorn, Brent Leach, Dustin Molleken and Jeremy Jeffress combined to allow just one earned run in 5.1 innings of work. Leach picked up the win after pitching 1.1 clean innings while striking out three. Jeffress earned his first save of the season after retiring the Zephyrs in the ninth.

The Sounds moved into second place after the victory are now just a half game back of the Zephyrs for first place in the division.

The Sounds will now open a four-game series with the Memphis Redbirds at Greer on Monday at 7:05pm. RHP Mike Fiers (6-3, 2.53 ERA) will make his return in a Nashville uniform against Zach Petrick (4-3, 4.48 ERA). Jeff Hem will have the call on 102.5 The Game.
