APSU Lady Gov’s Breigh Jones earns USTFCCCA honor

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUNew Orleans, LA – Austin Peay State University sprinter Breigh Jones earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the association announced Tuesday.

Jones concluded her sophomore season with a 3.88 grade-point average and a trip to the NCAA Championships in the 400m dash, where she finished 20th overall as the first Austin Peay athlete to compete at that level since 2001.

The psychology major has already left an indelible mark on the program, owning both indoor and outdoor 400m dash records, six medals in Ohio Valley Conference Championship action and two trips to the NCAA East Preliminary round.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by www.TFRRS.org

For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Jones was one of seven Ohio Valley Conference female athletes to earn USTFCCCA honors, joining Eastern Illinois’ Jade Riebold, Eastern Kentucky’s Ann Eason, SIU Edwardsville’s LaDonna Caston and Southeast Missouri’s Bethany Pfeiffer, Sarah Hall and Jessica Brown.
