Hummingbird Festival Returns to LBL’s Woodlands Nature Station August 2nd and 3rd

Land Between the Lakes - LBLGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area hosts the annual Hummingbird Festival, Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and 3rd, from 10:00am-4:00pm at Woodlands Nature Station.

Admission to this special event is $6.00 ages 13 and up, $4.00 ages 5-12, and free for children 4 and under.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird migration in this area peaks in August.

Highlights include hummingbird banding demonstrations, a wildlife art show, a wildlife sketching workshop, a native plant sale, live animal encounters, local wildlife experts, and activities for kids.

Food, prepared by Land Between The Lakes Brandon Spring Group Center cooks, will be available for purchase.

Nature Station Interpreter, Brooke Gilley, explains “a large number of hummingbirds stop here on their journey south to Mexico and Central America. During this time, up to 200 hummingbirds might visit our feeders in a single day. The festival is an opportunity for people to witness these powerful birds, about the size of an adult thumb, in a fun, learning atmosphere.”

  • 12:00pm — Gardening for Hummingbirds and Butterflies
  • 1:00pm  — Hummingbirds 101
  • 2:00pm  — The Art of Photography, Presented by Teresa Gemeinhardt
  • 3:00pm  — Hummingbirds 101

Sunday, August 4th

  • 11:00am — Hummingbirds 101
  • 12:00pm — Stories of the Hummingbird, Presented by Sonya Wood Mahler
  • 1:00pm  — Hummingbirds 101
  • 2:00pm  — Sketching Workshop: Find the Wildlife Artist in You, Presented by Lennie Fottrell
  • 3:00pm  — Hummingbirds 101

Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area manages more than 170,000 acres in western Kentucky and Tennessee as part of the U.S. Forest Service and the Department of Agriculture’s public lands program.
