Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office officials hope to continue training other agencies in active shooting

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOMontgomery County, TN – Investigator Jeff Morlock and Deputy Chris Montjoy of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office recently taught members of several law enforcement agencies in response to active shooters.

“The Sheriff (John Fuson) sent us to a ‘Train the Trainer’ course put on by ALERRT so we could host training here for our law enforcement partners in the area,” Morlock said. “He believes it is vitally important that all agencies are on the same page when responding to an active shooter situation.”

Through the course, first responders are prepared to isolate, distract and neutralize active shooters in dangerous situation. Attendees learn about team movement, setting up for room entry, breaching doors, IEDs and more.

The course ends with students donning protective gear and responding to a simulated active shooter situation with weapons using simulation rounds, where they can put what they they’ve learned to the test.

Aside from several MCSO students in attendance, other agencies that took part were Austin Peay State University Police, Clarksville Police Department, 160th SOAR Security and Dickson County Sheriff’s Office.

“We hope to host more of these courses in the future,” Morlock said.
